The company name, Freshwater Charch (pronounced “shark”) holds a place close the builder and designer Robert Jess’s heart and soul.

For years, Bob traveled from Charlevoix to University of Detroit Mercy where he obtained his masters in architecture and graduated with honors. During his travels, he had a lot of time to reflect on his dreams and future of building and design.

Since he was from Charlevoix, which is surrounded by fresh water and he was studying architecture, the name CHARCH kept coming to mind. CHARlevoix and ARCHitecture. All of the architecture classes Bob was taking started with ARCH. So upon graduation, Bob followed his dream and created Freshwater Charch.
